LIVING WITH TERRORISM: SURVIVAL LESSONS FROM THE STREETS OF JERUSALEM
BY HOWARD LINETT PALADIN PRESS BOOK

Many people write about terrorism. Some people live with it. The author; Howard Linett has done both and done it well. Many of the lessons learned that we in the USA have about dealing with terrorism, we got from the Israelis who for many years have been the victim of terrorism on a daily basis. Howard is an American by birth but now an Israeli citizen. His is also a member of the Israeli Police Civil Guard and a sniper in their unit in Jerusalem. He has first hand experience at many terrorist events and has chosen to share his experience and lessons learned with ohters in the law enforcement community in particular in the US. Howard; who by the way, was the keynote speaker at Trexpo West this year in Long Beach, Ca., starts his book by dealing with a chapter on risk assessment and about targets that terrorists might pick and why. Throughout the book he relates experiences that have occurred in Israel along with many photos and explains how some of these may be applicable tin the US. He next discusses the nature of the terrorists with the emphasis on the suicide/homicide bomber phenomenon. The next chapter cover the terrorist threat and serves as a primer on both the conventional and unconventional weapons likely t be used in terrorist attacks. The next chapter goes into the tactics used by the terrorists in those attacks. Following this is a chapter on how to defend yourself and your family from terrorist attacks which gives excellent advice based on real attacks.
The last chapter deals with one of our worst case scenarios; weapons of mass destruction It covers planning and preparing for a chem/bio attack and goes into specifics such as gas masks, sealed rooms, evacuation along with the author's family personal preparations. There are also two appendices; one on advice on what to do for families which is published by their Home Front Command which is similar to our Dept. of Homeland Security. The book is not geared just for law enforcement like many others are, but for the public as well who could become a target. I definitely recommend this book and hope that some of the lessons learned from Israel may some some lives in the US.
