Told You So!

Monday morning Israeli time, while he was yet again out of the country pretending to be a Statesman, Israeli Prime Minister Olmert allowed the disclosure that early this summer five members of the several various Palestinian security services hatched a plot to assassinate him. They planned to fire on his convoy as it was driving into Jericho, bringing Olmert to a June 6th pre-Annapolis Conference planning meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. The story was released in time to make the 08:00 East Coast drive-time radio shows.

The purpose of the disclosure was threefold. It was timed and designed to smack Palestinian President Abbas and to embarrass U.S. Secretary of State Rice. It was also a futile attempt to elicit a wave of support from the Israeli public for their “Marked for Death” Prime Minister. I leave the in-depth analysis of my Hat-Trick Treatise to the political pundits. I simply take great comfort from my belief that now America’s Secretary of State has the same insight in Israel’s PM and shares the same feeling for him as do the vast majority of the Israeli people. I am driven to point out the irony of the assassination plot.

On August 27th the New Media Journal.us published my Opinion Piece, Rushing Headlong Into the Great Abyss. I reported on and complained about the almost non-stop small arms familiarization and marksmanship practice taking place all around Jerusalem. It was being conducted for Palestinian Authority security services personnel (Fatah) and other “good” Fatah terrorists. I railed against the idea of continuing the arming and training of the personnel of the multiplicity of Palestinian security services. I cited the historical fact that such previous actions had resulted in the deaths of hundreds of Israeli civilians and soldiers when the inevitable happened; the weapons and training were turn against those who had allowed such. I loudly asked if the United States Department of State had a death wish or was merely insane because it planned to train a new Palestinian Authority security entity, one to protect foreign dignitaries visiting areas under Palestinian Authority control. I sarcastically questioned, why not share another of our playbooks with those “good” Fatah terrorists? I often cry lonely into the wind.

Where do you think the five would-be assassins obtained the information they needed to be able to concoct their plot? How did they know where to position themselves? How would they be able to reach those positions along the convoy’s route? How would they be able to remain in those positions, each being within the sterile area along the convoy’s route? Where did they obtain the arms and ammunition with which to carry out the attack?

Get real. They were members of the Palestinian Authority security apparatus. That is where they obtained their “inside” information, arms and training. That is how they would obtain freedom of movement to get into position to carry out their attack. You know, they are just your typical good Fatah terrorist Palestinian Authority security officers.

Need I ask how many thousands of weapons and how many millions of round of ammunition have been supplied to the good Fatah terrorists of the various Palestinian security services since June 6th? How many training courses? How much other “police equipment?”

Perhaps I should not only be asking the State Department whether it has a death wish or is merely insane, but also asking Israel’s PM and his gaggle of Ministers. At least one can love the irony of it all!
